Course aim
The aim of this eLearning is to gain an awareness of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) and the impact and application of this in practice.
Target audience

This course is suitable for all delegates working within the voluntary and independent sector supporting 'Adults at Risk of Harm' (formerly Vulnerable Adults), in a range of settings.

This is a pre-requisite course for other ERSAB Level 2 and above learning.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

  • define the MCA and how it protects people’s rights and keeps them safe
  • explain the 5 principles of the MCA
  • demonstrate the practicable steps to assess capacity
  • recognise the role of advocacy
  • summarise best interest decision making.

This course is equivalent to ERSAB Level 2 Mental Capacity Act 2005 3 hour virtual course and either of these courses or other Mental Capacity Act training are acceptable as pre-requisites for ERSAB Level 2 Reporting Concerns and Level 3 courses
