Course aim
This course aims to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of the legislation, principles and process needed to effectively support or undertake a section 42 safeguarding enquiry in line with the Care Act 2014.
Course details

This course is suitable for delegates with safeguarding decision making responsibility, working in the voluntary and independent sector, working with 'Adults at Risk of Harm' within a range of settings. This activity is also appropriate for those that supervise, manage or quality-assure the work of practitioners carrying out Section 42 Enquiries.

  4. Enquiry Planning
  5. Questioning techniques
  6. Case study/group work
  7. Enquiry Outcome Report (Form 4)
Target audience
  1. As a pre-requisite, delegates must evidence attendance/knowledge at Level 1 Recognising Adult abuse and Level 2 (Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Reporting a Concern)
  2. Have a strategic, managerial or operational decision making role within your organisation
  3. Are new in post or refreshing knowledge
  4. May need to meet various standards/qualifications/continual professional development.
Learning outcomes

By the end of this activity delegates will be able to:

  1. Recognise when a local authority may undertake a Section 42 enquiry and under
  2. Recognise what circumstances they may cause another organisation to undertake this role.
  3. Develop an understanding of the framework of an enquiry and how to carry out an enquiry
  4. Explain the role of advocacy within the section 42 enquiry process.
